Life's Sister took over 250 hours to complete.
It's the product of extensive experimentation.
I created the arch of twigs, cut into the canvas, and created a work on a pedestal for the first time ever.
The twigs were originally intended to be in their natural state while framing the canvas. However, I discovered plaster at the architecture studio late one night. I planned to plaster the twigs and paint atop the plaster. In the process of plastering I had a eureka moment. The white plaster worked perfectly in framing the picture.
Inspired by "Life's Sister" - a poem by Edith Sodergran.
